Here’s a short video clip of my first black bear sighting in Canada. He was a short 30 yards away down the embankment from the highway.
As you seen him come closer and disappear, that’s when I cut the camera, saddled up and bolted up the road another 50 yards. When he reappeared he was right where I was standing filming on the side of the road.
Sorry the video is only 11 seconds long, I think the adrenaline and pure excitement got the better of me, I started to shake and couldn’t keep the camera still. As he got closer all I could think about is, “RUN!” I’ve never been in a position where there isn’t a fence, barrier, wall, bars, etc in between myself and a bear.
I was born and raised in Alaska. Often I’d be riding my motorcycle on old logging roads and find myself feet from a bear…they won’t hurt you! Well…unless they are really hungry or you’re between them and their cubs.
The folks around here have been saying the same thing: They won’t mess with you if you don’t mess with them. And, NEVER, EVER get in between Mamma bears and their cubs.
It was a first time experience for me and I didn’t wanna press my luck.
